Founded in 2015 in Basel the Opalio Quintet is a versatile chamber music ensemble that specialize in all chamber music repertoire with strings and piano, from piano quintet/trio to string quartet as well as an active performing schedule with the sonata repertoire. The quintet consist of five different nationalities, Italian, Irish, Korean, French and Polish and are often praised for their sensibility and subtlety combined with honest passion and risk taking flair.

 

The ensemble has racked up numerous prizes at international competitions such as “Ysaye International Competition”, “International Chamber Music Competition” in Pinerollo, Torino, Credit Suisse Jeune Solistes Competition, International Bacewicz Chamber music Competition, Orpheus Competition and the Basel Duo Wettbewerb.

 

They have performed recitals internationally, and have been invited for festivals such as Engadin Festival, Mezzano Romantica (Italy), Musikdorf Ernen and Adelboden Swiss Chamber Music Festival. 

As active enthusiasts of contemporary music they have premiered and performed many new works and are aiming to grow the new music repertoire for piano quintet.

Opalio quintet was recently welcomed as an ECMA-aspirant ensemble where they will have the opportunity to work with some of the most prestigious chamber musicians in Europe and offer concerts in different European capitals. They have studied chamber music with international renowned musicians such as Rainer Schmidt, Claudio Martinez Mehner, Raphael Oleg, Silvia Simionescu, Ferenc Rados, Gabor Takacs and many others. 

Currently Opalio Quintet are studying in the specialised chamber music masters in Basel with Anton Kernjak.
